Battleship North Carolina
The USS North Carolina is a large battleship parked in the Cape Fear River in Wilmington, NC. This famous battleship was commissioned in 1937 and finished 4 years later, in 1941. At this time the United States of America was still neutral as World War II was ramping up. After the infamous Japanese assault on Pearl Harbor, the USS North Carolina Battleship was mobilized as a part of the United States Navy to seek out and counter Axis forces.
The USS North Carolina underwent many battles and thus, many repairs. After being taken out of and put back into commission time and again, the famous USS North Carolina Battleship was finally retired and made to be apart of a museum in Wilmington, North Carolina in the early 1960s.
Today, the USS North Carolina still resides in Wilmington, NC, on 1 Battleship Road along the Cape Fear River, near the Cape Fear Museum.
